December 3rd & 4th Parent Note for Remix/Revolution

Hi Remix, Revolution & SPIN Parents!

We would love to partner with you and help you as the spiritual leader of your family. Here’s a weekly overview of what you kids are learning!

In Isaiah 9:6-7, the prophet Isaiah wrote: “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (NLT). He wrote this hundreds of years before Mary or Joseph or any of the shepherds came on the scene. But this piece of history is significant to the Christmas story because it tells us something incredible about God. It reminds us that God made a promise to send a Savior. A promise He made at a time when things looked dark—during a period when the tribes of Israel were lost and scattered and hopeless. And then finally, hundreds of years later, God kept His promise on that first Christmas.

Bottom Line: I can have joy because God keeps His promises. We don’t always see the bigger story that God is telling through our lives. But when we remember how God has kept His promise to us in the past, we realize that we can trust God with our future.

In Philippians 4:4, we read “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again – rejoice!” (NLT). As kids memorize this verse, we hope they remember that their joy is not tied to their circumstances. Instead, we find joy when we realize that we belong to God. When we trust God no matter what, we can find joy knowing that whatever happens He is in control.

We are holding a Coat Drive now through December 11th. Over 1 in 4 kids (28%) in Fairfax County qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Kids right here in our immediate community! If you can’t afford food, how can you possibly have money for a coat? You can help us spread warmth because no one should be left out in the cold! Simply go through your closets and pull out your gently worn coats, and bring them to us now through December 11th – it’s that easy! All of the coats will be immediately distributed to families in need through the Fairfax County Public School’s Homeless Liaison Office.

Make sure you check out our weekly devotional with your child and the parent cue to go more in depth with your child about God’s Word. Check out our new website, One of our goals in Kids' Time is to partner with parents in raising kids to know God and trust them as their Savior. Please contact me if you would like to go over any other these resources.

Much love, Courtney
